“Practical Engineering” Course, Dr. Moshe Tshuva.

As part of the “Practical Engineering” course, the students study issues of Mechanical Engineering, Solids Mechanics, and Engineering Content, in a practical manner through the actual implementation of projects. Thus, for example, they learn to understand materials stresses by means of building a bridge, building a candle powered engine, in order to comprehend

Each student is required to build two engineering projects during the course, and to furnish an appropriate report for each project. The work on the projects is carried out in pairs (not individually and neither in trios), and the limited and inexpensive means obligate the students to invest a great of contemplation in coming up with creative solutions. A competition is held amongst all the projects submitted, upon the completion of all the projects, with the grade for each project being influenced by the results of the competition.

Studies in the “Practical Engineering” Course enable the Students:

  • To study various issues of engineering in a practical manner.
  • To contend with real life calculation problems without the use of a computer.
  • To comprehend the complexity of the transition from design to construction.
  • To develop autodidactic and team work skills.
  • To learn manufacturing technologies and material properties.
  • To develop creative thinking, thermo-dynamics, and so on.
