Computer Science

what is computer science?

In recent decades, computers have changed nearly every aspect of our lives, from the devices we use to the ways we communicate with others. The undergraduate program in computer science is focused on understanding computer systems and their principles. The computer science degree at Afeka College includes courses that provide a broad mathematical background, theoretical courses on information representation and algorithms, courses on system-wide subjects such as architecture and operating systems, and courses on such practical subjects as analyzing and applying algorithms to practical problem solving. The program also includes a wide choice of elective courses. The program gives students the tools for structured analytic thinking, and the basis for understanding the theory and application of computer science. Alumni will be able to find work as software developers in the market’s largest companies, at startup companies, and even in companies that aren’t primarily concerned with softwar

Computer science is the name given to the set of mathematical tools used for studying computation and algorithmics. An algorithm is a series of simple mechanical operations whose use solves a computational problem. Computers are capable of performing simple mechanical operations at great speed, and thus when algorithms are translated into computer commands, the result is a machine that can solve multiple problems rapidly and efficiently. An in-depth understanding of these principles is required not only for developing new algorithms, but also for choosing and adapting existing algorithms to the needs of specific systems. Students of computer science at Afeka College learn the repertoire of classical algorithms, and acquire tools for analyzing and evaluating their efficiency – as well as the ability to adapt existing algorithms to new problems or develop new algorithms as needed.
