
Dr. Genadi Birfir
Academic Background
Dr. Genadi Birfir holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Geography from Bar-Ilan University, as well as a Ph.D. from the Porter School of Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University. His doctoral research focused on Competition of Public Transportation in Israel.
Following the completion of his Ph.D., he conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Management at Bar-Ilan University, during which he developed models and tools for analyzing the level of service and accessibility of public transportation using open data sources.
In addition, he completed a second Master’s degree (M.B.A.) with a specialization in Information Systems at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Bar-Ilan University.
Professional Background
For over two decades, Dr. Genadi Birfir has been involved in project management, transportation planning, and the design and development of information systems, with extensive experience both in Israel and in international projects.
He has participated in dozens of major transportation projects in Israel, including tenders for the operation of public transport systems, integration of bus services with railway stations, preparation of public transportation master plans for Arab localities, membership in the national planning team of National Master Plan 42 (TAMA 42), and more.
Until January 2023, he served as a board member of the Israel Society for Transportation Research.
Main Research Areas:
Transportation policy, behavioral modeling and demand forecasting, methods for operating transportation systems, and the use of Big Data methodologies as a decision support tool.
