Research Grant Award for Sustainable Autonomous Mobility

A research proposal led by Dr. Ohad Eisenhandler from Afeka College of Engineering, in collaboration with Tel Aviv University, has been awarded funding by the Israeli Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Transportation.

The project focuses on developing an innovative framework for operating demand-responsive electric autonomous shuttle services on fixed routes as part of the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) vision. The research aims to improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of smart transportation systems through adaptive operational rules for ride assignment, stop management, and vehicle charging.

Using real-world data from Tel Aviv’s Bubble-Dan service and insights from autonomous shuttle deployments worldwide, the project will develop practical and transparent decision-making strategies for transport operators and policymakers. The expected outcomes will support improved accessibility, reduced traffic congestion, and enhanced environmental sustainability, while requiring minimal changes to existing transportation infrastructure.
