The Battle for Israel’s Election: AI and the Fight for Truth

Israel’s election is already entering uncharted territory. AI-generated political videos and manipulated content are circulating across social media, while Israeli authorities prepare for the possibility of disinformation and foreign attempts to influence the vote. As the technology evolves faster than existing safeguards, fundamental questions are emerging about what voters can believe and trust.

Can Israelis trust what they see? Could AI-generated content influence the vote? Could Iran or another foreign actor interfere? And what happens if misinformation convinces a significant portion of Israelis that the result itself can't be trusted?

In this timely discussion, three Afeka College of Engineering experts will examine the technology behind this new information landscape, the challenge of identifying and countering manipulated content, and the broader ethical and societal implications for Israel's election.

Dr. Sharon Yalov-Handzel, Head of Afeka's Master's Program in Intelligent Systems and Director of its Center for Applied Research in Language and Voice Processing; Dr. David Faitelson, Head of Afeka's School of Software Engineering; and Dr. Hisham Abdulhalim, an expert in AI-powered systems and AI ethics, will bring distinct perspectives to a conversation about how rapidly advancing technology is changing the way information is created, distributed and trusted.

The webinar will feature opening remarks from Prof. Yossi Rosenwaks, President of Afeka College of Engineering.
