High-End Space Electronics: Active Shielding to Mitigate Catastrophic Single-Event Effects

A new active protection system designed to shield commercial electronics from catastrophic radiation events in outer space.

The system combines particle detectors and a real-time predictive algorithm, enabling to identify dangerous radiation impacts and activate rapid electric reset, which prevents irreversible hardware damage.

The solution’s effectiveness was tested using GEANT4 simulations and data from the International Space Station, with the system achieving a precision rate of 95%.

This technology offers an efficient, cost-effective alternative to specialized hardware ruggedization, and allows to integrate advanced computing abilities in space missions.
