Dr. Nadav Sheffer
Dr. Nadav Shafer, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer in Medical Engineering at Afeka, and also serves as a consultant to the medical device industry (AMAR). In addition, he teaches in the Master's program in Regulatory Studies at the Gray School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, as well as in the Department of Health Systems Management at Ariel University.
Dr. Shafer holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Tel Aviv University (as part of the academic reserve program). Upon graduation, he served in the IDF Medical Corps as a biomedical engineering officer and later as Acting Head of the Medical Equipment Evaluation Department. Following his military service, he continued to serve in the reserves in this same field for nearly two decades.
Alongside his military career, Dr. Shafer completed an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering and later earned a Ph.D. in the same field, both from Tel Aviv University. He also holds an additional LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) degree.
Over the course of nearly 30 years at the Israeli Ministry of Health, Dr. Shafer held various positions related to medical technologies. From 2013 to 2022, he served as Director of the Medical Devices Division (AMAR). He was a member of the National Helsinki Committee for Clinical Trials involving medical devices, and an advisor to the Ministry of Health's committee on medical cannabis research.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Shafer has actively participated in numerous committees at the Standards Institution of Israel, including chairing (on a voluntary basis) the Central Standards Committee for Medical Equipment, as well as serving on various technical and expert committees.
Dr. Shafer has been a faculty member at Afeka since January 2006. He currently serves as Head of the Afeka Center for Medical Engineering (ACME), Project Coordinator at the School of Medical Engineering, and Academic Advisor for final-year projects in the field.
As part of his research activity, Dr. Shafer collaborates with Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, the School of Public Health at the University of Haifa, and the Department of Health Systems Management at Ariel University.
