In September 2025, a delegation of Afeka faculty and alumni visited the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) in the Czech Republic, as part of the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions.
The delegation included faculty members and students from Afeka’s School of Mechanical Engineering, who took part in academic, research, and cultural activities at TUL’s Faculty of Engineering.
The faculty members included Dr. Uri Albocher, of Afeka’s solid mechanics specialization, and Mr. Ilan Zilberman, Afeka’s engineering graphics and 3D printing coordinator, both of whom additionally presented lectures at TUL.
Dr. Albocher presented his research on elastography, the imaging of the mechanical properties of soft tissue by solving Inverse problems. Mr. Zilberman lectured on theoretical understanding as a foundation for applied learning in engineer training.
The faculty members were subsequently assigned to TUL research departments: Dr. Albocher to the department of intelligent material mechanics, and Mr. Zilberman to the department of manufacturing systems and automation, which also includes 3D printing-related activities.
The student delegation spent about two months in the Czech Republic, with its members taking part in various TUL departments.
Idan Adott took part in the robotics department under the supervision of Dr. Ondrej Matusek; Tal Guetta in the glass producing machines and robotics department under Dr. Jan Kracík; and Daniel Shani in the vehicles and engines department under Dr. Robert Voženíle.
During their stay, the students took part in a Welcome Week, getting to know the campus, meeting with students from around the world, and touring the town of Liberec.
Additionally, they took part in the Buddy program, which connects participants from various countries, visited advanced research labs, and took part in lectures and meetings with leading researchers.
The delegation’s visit significantly contributed to bolstering the ties between Afeka and TUL in fields of research, pedagogy, and applied practice, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
For the students, it was an exciting international academic adventure, allowing them to truly experience work in a multidisciplinary, multinational environment, and to discover advanced realms in research and innovation.
The delegation is part of the activities of Afeka’s Ofek – Skill Development Centers, which promote learning, experience, and personal development beyond the classroom.
Through joint initiatives with leading academic institutions, international social projects, hackathons, and attending advanced research labs, participants are exposed to novel technologies, develop solutions to global problems, broaden their professional and personal knowledge, and build a network of international connections that will serve them through their career.
The international experience is an integral part of the path which Afeka paves for future engineers: a path of curiosity, impact, meaningful work, and opening doors to the world.
