Oxygen saturation in the blood is a crucial index in characterizing physiological and pathological states and is based upon an optical test that differentiates between oxygenized hemoglobin and non oxygenized hemoglobin. During the course of this multidisciplinary project, a prototype of an inexpensive and convenient mobile device was developed, which monitors the level of oxygen saturation in the blood. The unique feature of the device is in its being based upon the reflection of light rays from the tissue.

An Android application was developed to display the results of the measurement. This innovative device has the clinical potential to improve home treatment for patients suffering from respiratory tract diseases
